An exquisite stay at the Makeney Hall Hotel

Makeney Hall Hotel, located in the small market town of Belper, is an exquisite countryside hotel. This spectacular Victorian mansion is set in 7 acres of charmingly designed landscape with sensational views across the Amber Valley. It has daily a la carte menu as well as offering high tea and a fully facilitated bar. Being just minutes from the beautiful walking trails, this is the perfect hotel for an outdoor lover due to its close proximity to the nearby Peak District and large grounds, explore the great nature which surrounds the hotel, and be sure to keep an eye out for the wild bunnies hopping around the hotel grounds. Or like we did, visit Alton Towers during the day (it's just a 40 minute drive away) then head to this hotel afterwards to wind down and relax. We stayed here in June 2023 and loved our experience with Makeney Hall Hotel.
There are a few room options to choose from at this hotel; Standard Double, Executive Double, Superior or Suite. We decided to upgrade our room during our visit so we purchased a Suite. This cost us £181.44 for the night, however if you are looking for something cheaper, they have rooms starting from £72 per night which is great value. We stayed in Room 5, which has sensational views overlooking the hotel rear garden, a large seating area and a double walk in shower. As well as a large TV, coffee and tea amenities and a guide to the Peak District - which we loved! The Suite was a very large room with a king-size bed, plenty of wardrobe space, lots of windows and a large bathroom. Book your room here.
The staff were superb! Fiona on the reception was the friendly face that you would want to see when you arrive at every hotel. She greeted us in polite manner and answered all the questions we had; she even personally brought us up something to the room immediately when we asked for it! Richard was also great help when reserving our room so we would like to say thank you to both of you for the experience you gave us.
We ate breakfast in the Lavina Restaurant located in the conservatory. Breakfast opens Monday to Friday 7am till 9:30am and weekends 8am till 10am. The breakfast buffet was superb, everything was fresh and constantly replenished. There were traditional English breakfast options served hot, then cold options such as cereals, jams and pastries. As well as your usual fruit juices, teas and coffees. Breakfast was priced at £15 per person which we felt was very good value for money, with some room options including breakfast.
The Makeney Hall Hotel has various events going on throughout the year; they provide you with a calendar of events for the year when you check-in. They have events such as Murder Mystery (which we attended), Wedding Fayre, Lunchtime events and Tribute nights. They can be booked directly through the hotel or via the companies who run the events. We highly recommend the Makeney Hall Hotel for anyone looking to indulge in the countryside at a Victorian mansion. The hotel's great amenities, friendly staff and excellent room options make it the perfect choice for business travellers, friends, families and couples alike.
